Saturday Academy The leadership programme promotes and develops the ethos of the Academy: listening to the boys' accounts of the ups and downs of their week, celebrating triumphs, discussing ways of avoiding conflict and learning to take responsibility for problems when they occur. We offer exciting opportunities for boys to learn skills for life and get involved in character building activities. Our young leaders meet weekly for: · sports and interactive games · leadership training (including drill) · tutorial support · group discussions and role play · one to one mentoring support During Key Stage2 (ages 8 -11yrs), boys focus on ‘personal leadership’ and character development using the the 'Character Counts' approach. This programme helps boys personal development by teaching about six pillars of positive character. The aim is to develop positive character traits within children by fully exploring the pillars via many mediums. The six ‘Pillars of Character’ are: Trustworthiness Respect Responsibility Fairness In addition to Character Counts older boys also learn twelve leadership traits (See About Us) which they can use to help make positive choices. All Young Leaders take part in drill sessions which teach physical coordination, self-awareness and cooperation in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Also: • Listening, speaking and writing skills • Maths, science and general knowledge • Games and sports The acceptance of self-discipline is a key factor in all we do. We provide realistic boundaries which enable the young leaders to behave appropriately at school, at home and in the wider community. |
