We focus on respect and self worth. Working in partnership with boys, their parents and their schools, the Academy provides a disciplined framework to encourage the boys to stay focused and to pursue opportunities with passion. Our goal is to raise self esteem and encourage success, allowing children to learn about and take hold of the opportunities that exist for them in the wider world. To achieve this, SYLA will deliver the following five objectives: • To broaden each boy's horizons, to understand the • To build each boy's life skills, particularly their 3. Opportunity In addition to our Young Leaders programme, central to our work is family support and strengthening family and community relationships. Currently the Academy consists of four components:
• To nurture each boy to achieve his own leadership
potential
opportunities available to them in the world
• To support each boy in achieving, and where possible
exceeding, his projected attainment in school
communication and team working skills
• To help each boy stay in school.
Our programme will focus on three themes:
1. Leadership
2. Education

SYLA exists to enhance the leadership potential of African and Afro-Caribbean boys aged eight and over living in Southwark and Lambeth.
Our Young Leaders are boys who show promise and may exhibit excellence but who are not reaching their full potential in school and at home. SYLA's mission is to nurture, develop, maximise and release the leadership potential of these boys, empowering them to become a new generation of business and community leaders.
